Production Log week 6

What have you contributed this week?

This week I contributed to finishing the editing for the draft deadline to see what we would possible need to re film and I also helped another group by being in their music video as they had to re do a lot of shots.

How does this fit in with the production schedule/ job roles/ overall ideas of the project? ( refer to already posted work)

This fit into the production schedule as we need to know what we have to re film to make video better like if the shots lighting is too dark or too bright, if there are not enough close ups to shows the emotions on the actors faces as our music video is narrative and has no lip syncing in it so we had to convey all the emotions that we wanted through the close ups. There also may be shots that are supposed to show the girls having fun but we do not exactly look as though we are having fun.

Were there any problems? How did you/ will you overcome them?

There were problems faced in finding a house for us to re do the party as the house we originally used was not available so we had to find a house that we could use at such short notice. We overcame this as my mum allowed us to use the living as long as we did not make a mess and we didn't take to long

What are your plans for the following week?

The plan is to re film and edit so that the work is completed to its best extent.

Production Log Week 5

What have you contribuited to this week?

This week I contributed to the editing of my work and making sure that the work all falls into place, I also helped another group with their music video by playing the main girl in their video as the actress they already had backed out.

How does this fit in with the production schedule/ job roles/ overall ideas of the project? (refer to already posted work)

This fits into the schedule as it means the group is on the right track to finishing the work on time and it also tells us where we need to re film and what shots could be filmed in a way that makes it look more exciting than it being a shot in a straight shot. The shots that we would most likely need to do would be the party scene as it was very short and it did not look natural, another scene we would need to redo would be the just dance scene as none of us were smiling do it we didn't look as though we were having fun.

Were there any problems? How did you/ will you overcome them?

There were problems when trying to figure if the shots looked good in the order we had them in as it did not look like it flowed and told the story we wanted it to, however we overcame this by switching some of the shots around and making them either longer or shorter to shows the story and so it cuts to the beat. 

What are your plans for the following week?

The plans for the following week are to re film any of the shots or scenes we need and then to spend the rest of the time editing the video so that it looks professional, we are also going to add a black and white effect to some of the shots so that it looks like a flashback.

Production Log week 7

What have you contributed this week?

This week I have contributed to editing my music video so that it will be completed for the deadline, this meant that I had to stay back after school the video was completed to the best it could be. I also contributed to the re-filming that we did after school as our actors were busy during the weekend.

How does this fit in with the production schedule/ job roles/ overall ideas of the project? ( refer to already posted work)

This fits into the production schedule as it means that after we finished all the shots that we need to, we can put them into the right places of the sing so that the music video comes together. Then we had to edit all the shots so that it fit and cut to the beat as it originally went over the song so we had to cut the shots shorter however this made the music video look better as it flowed and did not jump to the next shot.

Were there any problems? How did you/ will you overcome them?

There were problems when we had to re film as most of our actors were busy as they had already made plans meaning we could not re film some shots over the weekend so we were behind on the editing during lesson however we filmed a couple of shots of our main actor as we needed more close ups and then during lunch we filmed the just dance scenes and after school the party scenes.

What are your plans for the following week?

My plans for the next week are to finish any paperwork that has not been completed and to make sure all my work is up to date.

Music Video

Production Log Week 4

What have you contributed this week?

This week I finished off the filming for my music video, I also started to import the clips onto the mac on the programme Final Cut Express.

How does this fit in with the production schedule/ job roles/ overall ideas of the project? ( refer to already posted work)

This fits into the production schedule as it means that would could start editing our work and it shows what clips we may have to refilm as they may not look as professional as they should or we may need more close- ups to show the emotions that the characters are trying to convey so that it helps to keep the narrative of the music video to stay throughout the song as it helps the audience to understand what is happening in the video.

Were there any problems? How did you/ will you overcome them?

The problems that we faced were that the clips would not upload to the mac as the memory card had changed the format that we needed it to be for us to be able to use iMovie 11, however we changed the programme to Final Cut Express allowing to use though clips instead of having to refilm the footage.

What are your plans for the following week?

The plans for the following week are to start editing the shots so that they are the right length at that they cut to the beat so the video will flow, we will also put the music onto the programme so we can determine what shots fit and that the music and shots are in time. This will also allow us to see where we may need to add shots and what we could possibly refilm.

Production Log week 3

• What have you contributed this week?

This week I have contributed to filming and filling out the call sheets as it would be easier to separate the locations and the specific shots needed. 

• How does this fit in with the production schedule/ job roles/ overall ideas of the project? ( refer to already posted work)

During the week we began filming the music video as we did the scenes where the main girl and her friends were having fun and them out and about, we also did the shots were the main boy has a new girlfriend and when her friends follow her because the main girl is jealous that her friend is going out with her ex. We also filmed the shots that showed the main boy upset about his break up while his friends try and cheer him up.

• Were there any problems? How did you/ will you overcome them?

There were slight problems with timing and trying to keep ourselves focused however we overcame this because the weather was very chilly so it gave us the incentive to keep working and to work hard as we would be able to do the shots inside after.

• What are your plans for the following week?

My plans for the following week is to keep on filming so that we have completed our filming and can move onto editing to see if we missed out any shots and if we may need to re shoot any of the shots if they are not as good as we had previously thought.

Production log week 2

What have you contributed this week?

This week I have contributed to making sure that all the paperwork that we had to fill in before we started to film like the production schedule was done and put onto my blog. I also had to start my part of the shooting script.

How does this fit in with the production schedule/ job roles/ overall ideas of the project? ( refer to already posted work)

This week I started my part of the shooting script as we had divided the script between the three of us, which meant that we either had the beginning middle or the end of the video. My part of the video was the beginning as I had a clear idea in my head of how I wanted that part of the music video and the type of shots and locations they would be.

Were there any problems? How did you/ will you overcome them?

There were slight problems in making sure that we all had the work to put on our blogger as we all needed the work as proof but we overcame this by making sure that we were all able to email one another at a similar time so that the work would be uploaded it round about the same time. We also had a problem when we had to do our shooting scripts as we could not decide who would be best for each part of the script and what the shot would be whether it was close up or a mid shot, we overcame this when we did all the emotional ones with close ups and the other other shots either long or mid shot.

          

What are your plans for the following week?

My plans for the next week are to start filming the music video and to fill in the call sheets to show when and where we will be filming as it will be easier to know which locations we need to use on certain days.

The places we have chosen for our music video are a park, a house, the bedrooms of the boy and girl and Westfield shooping centre. Most of the locations we have chosen do not need permission for it , the only place in which we needed permission Westfield shopping centre as it is a public place where many people go to shop or eat. Westfield had told us that we would need to let them know where we would be filming and when, we also had to send pictures of where we were planning on filming as they need to know in advance to allow us to film there.

Job roles and Responsibilities

The role that I will be doing during the production of the music video will be the director. The responsibilities that I will be responsible for will be:

• Guiding the actors 
• Hit the targets and deadlines
• Manage the budget 
• Stick to the schedule 
• Keep the team focused and motivated

I will be suitable to guiding the actors as I know exactly how I want them to act and where they should be specifically standing or sitting to make the shot look perfect. I would be good for the role of making sure to hit the targets and make sure to meet the deadlines as I can be very organised and demanding so when my group is in the process of doing the work I will be making sure that they are doing it by texting them constantly to keep them on track. I will also be good at managing the budget as I am very cautious with money and I know how to use the money responsibly, so I will make sure that everything that needs money will be as cheap as possible but also good quality. I will also be good at making sure that we stick to the schedule as it is vital for us to make sure that we hit the filming deadline and the editing deadline to keep us on the right track to finishing the work, to keep the team focused and motivated I would give them incentives for doing the work well.

What have you contributed this week?

This week I contributed to the Location reccies and the risk assessment by taking pictures of the locations that I am going to use, I also contributed to making the production schedule for when will be filming so that everyone makes sure that they have that day free and it does not clash with other work priorities. I also delegated the work between the three of us and tried to make sure that everyone had and equal amount of work to do.

            

How does this fit in with the production schedule/ job roles/ overall ideas of the project? ( refer to already posted work)

This week we were given the work and were told to share to between us equally so we were all doing the workload instead of one person getting all the work done. However we did start working on some of the work for example we started to discuss when we would start filming as we have to make sure we are all free on the same days to allow us all to be there to film. We also started to discuss our job roles and started asking people if they would be apart of our music video whether it being extras or key people in the video like the best friends and the boyfriend/singer.

       

Were there any problems? How did you/ will you overcome them?

There are slight problems with the production schedule as we did not know whether our parents had already made plans for the week so we could not be sure when we were going to film, we overcame this by asking our parents and checking our calenders and we found two days we are free during the holiday at the moment but we are hoping that we have maybe another day of filming during the half term as we may want to re shoot a scene we had filmed the previous day.

What are your plans for the following week?

My plans for the following week are to make sure that I do the post for my job responsibilities and make sure that I have sorted out the production schedule so that it is up to date and that everyone has a copy of it so they will not forget that they have to filming on that day. I also plan on finishing my part of the shooting script hopefully before Friday, if not for Friday

Are there any areas of the presentation you would like to give any more detail on? (Creativity, practicality, technicality, music video theory)

The areas I would like to give more detail on, would be the  the conventions of my video as I think that I spoke very briefly about the use of the conventions like narrative and could have spoken about how I would use the conventions and why I chose them. Another area I would like to add more detail on would be the analysis of song as I did not really talk much about the lyrics so the audience may not have really understood the song as well as they could have, I would also go more into detail about the star persona as I did not really give that much information as to what the two artists would be wearing whether it be similar or different. Another area would be the target audience as that was also very brief so I could have explained it more and could change some of the information, I would also add detail to my idea as I think I could have spoken more about my idea.      

     

What did you audience identify as the strengths of your music video idea? (Creativity, practicality, technicality, music video theory)

The audience identified my strengths as having a good idea for the video it, which leads onto my choice of conventions like close - ups as I will make sure that you see the emotions that the artists and the main girl is showing due to the breakup/loss of a loved one. I also said I would use performance as I feel that the chorus should be performed to get the message he is trying to tell the girl across. Another strength would be that the clothing and locations I chose would suit the idea and the music of the song, the audience also agreed that the people I cast in my music video would suit the song and would fit perfectly to the role.

 

What did your audience identify as areas for improvement? (Creativity, practicality, technicality, music video theory)

The audience identified my weaknesses as I was not very clear when I spoke about how I would use my budget because they were not sure whether the people I had cast in my music video would need to use the bus or train to get to my house, so I would need to be clearer. Another weakness would be that I did not have many locations that I would use, so I would go back and look to see where I could film elsewhere to make the video seem more interesting. The age of my target audience was said to be to wide so I shall change that to a slightly less wide audience so that it fits to only a certain amount of people, another weakness would be that I should have checked the costs for the clothing I may need to buy as there is a possibility of me having to buy the clothes so I would need to know where I could get the clothes cheapest to stick the budget. 

What changes will you make to your music video concept based on the feedback you received? (Creativity, practicality, technicality, music video theory)

The changes I will make to my music video concept based on the feedback I received would be  to see if I can use any other locations in my video to make it interesting and so it fits the song, I would also change the star persona slightly as I think there could be things added like maybe a hat or different types of jewellery to fit the genre better. I will also double check with my cast to make sure they have the clothing I want before I go out and buy any as I will need to know how much money to spend on the clothing, I will also change the look of the video as I may not need to use a track unless I do a shot of her walking alone looking upset, I will also use mid shots so we can see their body language.

Artist's name: The Nites, which consists of Anthony Goldsbrough who is the lead vocalists and Michael Gazzard who plays the guitar and sings.

Brief History: Lead singer Anthony loved music from a very young age and his growing admiration for rock geniuses like Bon Jovi, Queen and the Beatles had encouraged him to write and perform his own music. Once he was given a guitar for his birthday by his dad and as time went his vocal abilities developed, at 15 his close friend, his uncle, died leaving him devastated and trying to drink away the pain but found his way through his music. Whereas Michael was already talented in academic and sports especially football, also held a passion for music at a very young age, and following the terrible loss of his father when he was 14 lead him to build a passion for music and pursue his dream of mastering the guitar.

Samples of clothing you would like them to wear:

   

The samples of clothing I would like them to wear would be black jeans with either a T - Shirt with a big slogan on it like a lyric form their song so we can easily identify them but it will also promote them as the audience are more likely to want to purchase something similar, or shirt rolled up to the elbow with giving them the smart but casual look, but it could also be worn with a waistcoat if they really want to look smart. Another piece of clothing would be a leather jacket as they have become trendy and everyone seems to be wearing them not just people who listen to punk music,  another piece of clothing would be converse as they are very casual, but it also helps the audience to identify the artist as they will automatically think of them if someone said who is that band that wears converse and has a lyric on their T-shirt. Big belt buckles would also be a part of their clothing as many other bands wear them for example Adam Levine from Maroon 5 who tucks in the front of his T - Shirt but leaves the rest out. Wrists bands  sunglasses, a hat and maybe an earring would be used in the clothing for the artist as many bands wear those accessories are usually seen worn by bands so the audience can relate to them better.

Samples of typography you would use for their logo:

The typography I would use would be bold, colourful, sharp and pointy edges, dark outline and symbols instead of actual letters. By using a bold font in my typography this would make it stand out and become more noticeable compared to standard font. Making the font colourful will help the audience take more of an interest in the appearance of the words. Sharp and pointy edges give the typography pop like attitude which will attract teenagers to the artist. A dark outline of the colourful bold letters enhances the individual letters to bring out the individuality of my artist and using symbols in the place of letters will create a fun side to the serious typography

Samples of mise-en-scene you would use in their video:

 

 

 

Having a guitar, microphone, amplifier, drums and stage in the mise-en-scene is a typical layout for music artists, this is then recognised by the audience which will help them to relate this to a pop rock music scene, which will will add a recongnisable attribute to the video, giving this typically old fashion 'rock' sense to it. The idea of using a bedroom and a street in the video will give a 'pop' twist as these are typically seen in most pop music videos it also helps to narrate the lyrics into the video.

Samples of colours you would use in your artist's identity:

The colours I would use in my artist's identity would be black to enhance and define my artists personality. This will outline my artists personality in the 'rock ' side of pop because rock music is associated with  black such as some of the clothes and make-up worn by different artists in this genre. I will use red as a contrast to the black as black and red work well when presented next to each other as the red highlights the black and creates a less dense look. I would use blue, green and purple within my artists look to brighten up the look which will bring out the 'pop' side of the pop rock. 

Samples of imagery which their song evokes in your mind:

The images that the song evokes are one of love, friendship and hope as he is a very good friend to stand by her in her time of need and is willing to let her take out all her emotions on him which also shows love as not all friends would be able to stand by and watch their friend fall, there is also hope as the lyrics say that it will get better she just has to have hope and faith in herself.  However the song also evokes images of heartbreak or the loss of a loved one as it must have been a horrible experience for her to be utterly crushed, which leads to the next image which is time as she will need a lot of time to heal from all the wounds created, another image would be of solidity as they have a strong relationship.
